Thônes has the most sporty and impressive via ferrata in the Annecy region! Also known as “La Roche à l’Agathe”, the Thônes via ferrata literally overlooks the village which is also the “capital of reblochon”. Seen from below the route seems impressive!
Thônes Via Ferrata, a journey in the verticality :
A short 15-minute approach walk takes us to the start of the via ferrata. A few fairly easy meters bring us to the first difficulty: the Pont De Singe. It is short, but when cold it wakes you up! The rest, although quite steep, is quite smooth. The vertical sections do not last long but you quickly gain height. It is not uncommon to see chamois, a short distance away, grazing on narrow ledges. We pass towards the escape routes.
We soon arrive at the key passage of the Thônes via ferrata, you have to choose between an inverted ladder, easy but with a panoramic view… or the overhang that will leave you with painful memories in your arms. Your guide will be able to offer you the right option. This is followed by a series of easy passages in a sculpted limestone rock leading to the summit. The view of the beautiful Thônes valley and the mountains that surround it is breathtaking!
A steep descent quickly leads to the start. For this via ferrata, the guide only takes 4 people. It is possible to do it in the morning (recommended in summer when it is hot) or in the afternoon. Technical equipment is provided.
Good Deal: 10% discount for groups of 4.
Does this via ferrata seem too difficult for you? : I advise you to look at the Via ferrata of La Clusaz.
