We leave this morning from Méribel with 5 skiers equipped with touring skis to descend the Gébroulaz Glacier. This magnificent descent through the Vanoise glaciers, spotted by Philippe from the Mont Vallon panorama, is in good conditions at the moment. We quickly cross the 3 Valleys area by the slopes; leave Méribel to go to Val Thorens and join the Col de Thorens chairlift. No wind today, which is not always the case! It is time to put on the harnesses because we are approaching the glacier area. The climb on seal skins to the Col de Gébroulaz is long but easy for the group. An hour fivty of skining up the Chavière Glacier followed by a slightly steeper section. We cover the last 50m on foot to reach the Col de Gébroulaz.
It is time for a break here before we start the descent of the Gébroulaz glacier. The panorama is breath taking ! Skins off, we begin the descent. We tack between the seracs, the light is perfect and the blue of the ice contrasts with the immaculate snow. It is a unique experience, the beauty of the place is astonishing. Skiing is easy because the powder snow is soft. We go beyond the crevassed areas to approach fields of virgin snow where we can trace beautiful curves. We are in the middle of the mountain and the tranquility of the place contrasts with the crowds on the slopes. We take the time to enjoy the place and take photos.
The descent of the Gébroulaz Glacier continues on wide and easy slopes to the Saut refuge. A well-deserved picnic on the terrace of the refuge (closed at this time) in the warmth of the sun is much appreciated. Here we are again on the long flats of the Fruit valley then of the Tueda lake through the Arolles. The descent ends at Méribel Mottaret. The loop is complete!
